Mechanisms for achieving Hyperosmolality of the Medullary Interstitium /contd...

2. Diffusion of Water from the Collecting Duct

Under the influence of Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH), the collecting ducts become highly permeable to Water. As a consequence, water diffuses out of the collecting duct lumen and into the intestitium. This water does not dilute the surrounding fluid as it is transported by the capillaries to the general circulation.
