- secrete soluble substances called Antibodies
into the body's fluids, or humors; thus known as humoral immunity.
|
- Antibodies interact with circulating antigens such
as bacteria and toxic molecules.
|
- Each B cell programmed to make one specific antibody,
e.g. one will make an antibody against the common cold, another against
tetanus
|
- When the specific antigen is met, each B cell gives
rise to many large plasma cells.
- A plasma cell can produce a large quantity of antibody
molecules.
- As each plasma cell descends from a given B cell that
are all members of the same family, or clones, the antibodies that are
produced from these plasma cells are identical.
