Summation
- If a muscle is stimulated by a
number of stimuli, the muscle fibre would not
relax completely and the following twitches would
produce a higher tension than the first one.
- This occurs through a process of
summation
- As the frequency of the stimuli
increase, the time of relaxation decreases. The
result is an almost continous conttraction. This
is called incomplete tetanus.
- When the the contraction is
continous it is called complete tetanus.
