Properties of Blood |
Blood volume fluctuates very little.
Blood volume of the average adult male is between 5 - 6 L while for the average female is between 4 - 5L.
As blood contains red cells, it is thicker and more adhesive than water and has a higher viscosity.
The red colour of arterial blood is due to oxygenated hemoglobin. When oxygen is removed, the blood appears darker.
pH of blood is between 7.35 and 7.45. Arterial blood is more alkaline than venous blood as the level of carbon dioxide is less.
