Blood Coagulation

 

  • Following tissue injury, clot formation starts within 15 to 20 seconds if the injury is severe and within 1 to 2 minutes, if the injury is slight.
  • Coagulation starts through two pathways:
  INTRINSIC PATHWAY
  EXTRINSIC PATHWAY
  • These two pathways converge and the final product is the conversion of prothrombin which in turn converts fibrinogen into fibrin.
