Major Processes in the GIT

 

  • To achieve the mentioned objectives, there are five major processes in the gut:
  motility - the method by which food is moved down the gut
  secretion of juices from exocrine glands
  digestion that converts large organic molecules to smaller molecules
  absorption of the digested products and nutrients across the intestinal wall of the small intestine into the blood
 

elimination of the indigestible materials and waste products from the end of the tract
